This tutorial is for all you active, hardworking ladies or fellas out there who deal with this very common issue..............smelly shoes! These fantastic little pods are especially good for your beloved ballet flats. I don't know any women whose flats are at least a little stinky. All you need is a little bit scrap fabric and baking soda. I also add some essential oils for a little extra deodorizing power. If you only have baking soda, do not fret, it will work just fine on its own.
First you need to cut out 4 3.5" inch squares. Place squares right side facing in and straight stitch all around your edge except for 1.5" to 2". I clip all four corners before I turn the pod right side out. I usually use a knitting needle to push out the corners so they are nice and square, I feel like a chop stick would also work for this. Press the seams in on the gap you left. You will defintely want to do this before you add any baking soda, otherwise your gonna spill it out.
Next measure out about 3/4 Cup baking soda and place in a bowl. I add 15 drops of tea tree oil, rosemary oil, and lemongrass oil each. The combination smells absolutely wonderful. Mix thoroughly with a whisk and spoon into empty pods. You don't have to fill all the way, I only filled them a little over half way.
I use a slip stitch to close it up, it's a nice way to keep your stitches hidden. I suggest doing small stitches so that your baking soda doesn't leak out.
This is such an easy project, and most likely you already have the materials laying around.
Just place in your shoes and thats it! Your shoe pods will absorb odor and deodorize until the next time you wear them.
